Cusco + Inka Trail

Itinerary

Day 01: Cusco

Transfer from the airport in Cusco to your hotel. You will then have the rest of the morning free to rest and enjoy your surroundings at leisure.  Later in the day we will visit a native cultural dance centre (Centro Qosqo Nativo) for a traditional  show of dance and theatre.

Day 02: Sacred Valley of the Incas

cusco inka trailAfter breakfast in the hotel we will visit the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Pisac, the gateway to the Sacred Valley has a huge artisan market which will tantalise all of your senses; vibrant colours, rich traditions and the aromas of local cuisine being prepared in the market square. We will have lunch in Urubamba, a short drive from Pisac and then continue on to Ollantaytambo.
The city of Ollantaytambo is best known for its ruins, and for the spot where the Inca emperor Manco Inca was able to defeat the Spanish in a set-piece battle. The finely cut rocks and plantation terraces were very large obstacles for the Conquistadors to surpass. The fortress was also used by Manco to conduct successful attacks on Francisco Pizarro and other Conquistadors who were based in Lima.
During the Inca Empire, Ollantaytambo was the royal estate of Emperor Pachacuti who conquered the region, built the town and a ceremonial centre.
On our return to Cusco we will visit CHINCHERO. Chinchero is a small Andean Indian village located high up on the windswept plains of Anta at 3762m about 30km from Cusco and in Incan mythology is believed to be the mythical birthplace of the rainbow.
We will visit their famous adobe colonial church, dating from the early seventeenth century and stroll around the main plaza where the locals display and offer their handmade products.
Finally after this unforgettable experience we will return to Cusco for dinner and traditional cabaret in one of the tourist restaurants.
We spend a well deserved nights rest in Cusco.

Day 03 Inka Trail KM 104

We have an early breakfast in the hotel then transfer to the train station, board the train and head for the start of the Inca Trail at WIÑAYHUAYNA. We walk for approximately 6 hours until we arrive at Aguas Calientes, the nearest town to Machu Picchu. We spend the night here.

Day 04: Machu Picchu

cusco inka trailBreakfast in the hotel. We arrive very early at the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu so we can make our way to the sun gate and witness the dawn bathe the mountain with its first rays. With guide in tow, we will extensively explore the site including all of the main constructions, Temples, Towers, the Solar Clock or Intiwatana, etc. At the base of Machu Picchu, several thousand feet below, the raging waters of the mighty Urubamba River can be seen winding its path through the Sacred Valley. You will have the opportunity to climb Huaynapicchu, the sun drenched peak, towering over Machu Picchu. This beautiful, verdant conical mountain forms the backdrop of many iconic Machu Picchu photos. As you sit and marvel at the work of this ancient culture you will have time to absorb and reflect on the undeniable energies that will connect you to this sacred place. We will have a late lunch and then return to Cusco on the train. Finally after this unforgettable experience we will venture out for dinner and be treated to a traditional cabaret in one of the tourist restaurants. We spend a well deserved nights rest in Cusco.

Day 05: Cusco - Lima

After breakfast in your hotel you will be free to explore the city one last time before being transferred to the airport in Cusco.
